Contractor: Tim Mitchell Contracting
Products used: FCM fixed curb mounted skylights in sizes 2246, FS 304 and 308

The Myers residence construction was started in July of 2005. The plans were drawn by a local architect in Sandpoint Idaho. After reviewing the initial plans that called for a 4 seasons type of rounded roof with integrated windows, it was suggested that a skylight roof with low-E windows would be more reasonable and hold up better in the cold and snowy climate.

The Myers, along with John Dahl of VELUX, came up with a plan of using 42 x 70 inch skylights in a bank of 12 on one level and a bank of 6 on the lower level. The roof framing is composed of laminate beams so the contractor came up with a detail to allow the electricians to run a wire down the middle of the beams for the lighting to hang on. Equally interesting was the trim detail used to allow the low-voltage wires for the electric blinds to be run to each of the 18 skylights and be concealed from view.
In another section of the same room a bank of 3 2’ x 4’ skylights were installed and the interior was trimmed with bead board to compliment the tongue and groove ceiling. The factory exterior trim was used for the skylights and metal roofing was purchased to match the VELUX color. Installation went smoothly and the Myers are very happy with the job.
